Prozac (fluoxetine) is a prescription medicine intended for the treatment of depression, certain eating disorders, panic attacks and obsessive-compulsive disorder. In some cases this drug can be prescribed for the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (in women). If you suddenly develop any of the following symptoms, especially at the beginning of the treatment, report them to the doctor immediately: thinking about harming yourself, aggressiveness, agitation, irritability, worsening depression, severe restlessness, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, extreme worry, difficulty falling asleep, or abnormal excitement. These symptoms are most often reported by younger patients. You can take your tablet of Prozac with some food or without usually twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. It’s best that you take this drug at the same time every day to avoid forgetting about your dosage. Do not start taking any new drugs and tell your health care provider if you are using, or have been recently using these medications: vinblastine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen, antidepressants, insulin, lithium, phenytoin, flecainide, seizure medications, diuretics, diabetes oral medications, sleeping pills, medications for anxiety, diazepam, mental illness medications, sedatives, anticoagulants, sibutramine, tramadol, drugs for migraine headaches, alprazolam, Parkinson's disease drugs, tranquilizers, or digoxin.
